New Delhi: Team India defeated South Africa by 7 runs and won the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Kensington Oval in Barbados. After India’s victory, former captain MS Dhoni congratulated The Men in Blue for their amazing win.
He posted a photo of Rohit Sharma and Co. lifting the T20 World Cup trophy on Instagram and wrote “CHAMPIONS 2024. India ended long-standing ICC trophy drought
The Men in Blue ended their 11-year ICC trophy drought after lifting the T20 World Cup trophy in Barbados. India batted first and scored 176 runs in the 20 overs. Virat Kohli smashed 76 runs off 59 balls, his outstanding knock was laced with six boundaries and two maximums. Axar Patel also scored 47 runs off 31 balls with one boundary and three maximums. Shivam Dube also contributed with the bat.
Chasing the target of 177 runs, South Africa got off to a poor start as Bumrah dismissed Hendricks in the second over. Tristan Stubbs and Quinton de Kock stitched a brilliant partnership of 58 runs and put some pressure back on the Indian bowlers. Klaasen struck 24 runs in the 15th over and took South Africa close to lifting their maiden ICC trophy but Hardik Pandya dismissed him in the 17th over and pulled things back in India’s favour.
Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh also did a great job in the death overs as South Africa fell 7-run short of the target. Hardik Pandya picked up three wickets. Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah also got two wickets each.
