New Delhi: Former India head coach Ravi Shastri reunited with his iconic Audi 100 at the Raymond Auto Fest in Thane recently. Shastri was thrilled to drive the vintage car once again and said it was shining like it did 40 years ago when it was awarded to him for being the Player of the Tournament in the Benson & Hedges World Championship of Cricket in 1985.
Shastri has several memories attached to the iconic car which he received for his heroic performances in the tournament. Shastri scored 182 runs and picked up 8 wickets to help India win the 1985 Benson & Hedges World Championship of Cricket. After beating Pakistan in the final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), Shastri and his teammates took his Audi for a stroll inside the ground.
Shastri took to Twitter to share pictures of his reunion with his beloved Audi 100 and said he was thrilled to drive the vintage car once again. The former India head coach also expressed his gratitude to Gautam Singhania, who organised the auto fest to celebrate the centenary of Raymond Group where several other vintage Indian cars were on display.
India’s @AudiIN – my baby after 25 years! Thrilled to drive it at the Raymond Auto Fest, thanks to
@SinghaniaGautam ‘s incredible initiative to restore #India’s vintage gems. Unbelievable how it still shines like it did 40 years ago when India won it,” Shastri said in a tweet with pictures of his reunion with his Audi car.

India’s first Audi car
Shastri’s Audi 100 was the first luxurious vehicle from the German automaker to arrive in India and thus holds a special place in the heart of the former all-rounder, who always credited the award to the entire Indian team’s effort during the tournament.
India headed into the Benson & Hedges World Championship of Cricket in 1985 as the reigning world champions having won the World Cup in 1983 and lived up to the expectations by lifting the trophy. They beat the likes of Pakistan, England and Australia in the group stage before getting the better of New Zealand in the semi-final.
The final was a rematch with arch-rivals Pakistan and India won the game by 8 wickets to lift the elusive trophy.
