On Friday, December 13, India’s two exchanges National Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) announced the list of stock market holidays that will be observed in 2025. Obviously, it is of significance to every investor and trader active in the market. The official list of holidays show that all activities in the NSE and BSE will be suspended on as many as 14 days next year.
The most holidays – three each – will be in the months of April and October. February, May, November, and December will have one each while March and August will have two each.
First holiday in February
The first stock market holiday is supposed to be observed on February 26, 2025. It will be on account of the Hindu festival of Mahashivratri. Incidentally, Republic Day on January 26 has fallen on a Sunday, a normal weekly holiday for the markets. In a circular issued on December 13, NSE authorities mentioned, “In pursuance to clause 2 of Chapter IX of the Bye-Laws and Regulation 2.3.1 of part A of Regulations of the Commodity Derivatives Segment, the Exchange hereby notifies trading holidays for the calendar year 2025.”
Muhurat trading on October 21
This statement also mentioned that the special Muhurat trading that spans only one hour on the evening of Diwali will take place on October 21, 2025. However, the timing of Muhurat session has yet not been notified. It might be mentioned that in 2024, the Muhurat trading session was held between 6 pm and 7 pm on November 1.
