Sunil Gavaskar makes bold prediction for India vs Australia Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 winner

New Delhi: Legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has backed India to win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Australia for the third time in a row. India has enjoyed massive success in bilateral series against Australia in the red-ball format.

As the Rohit Sharma-led side is scheduled to play five Tests against Australia in their backyard from November 2024 to January 2025, Gavaskar believes India will continue their domination against rivals from Down Under. The 75-year-old predicted India to clinch the newly-formatted five-match series by a margin of 3-1.

“It’s going to be an exciting series for sure with the talent that is there on both sides and it will also show why Test match cricket is the ultimate format of our beloved game. Oh, and my prediction is a 3-1 win for India,” Gavaskar wrote in his column for the Mid-Day.

“With their opening batting problems exacerbated after the retirement of David Warner and the middle-order also a bit dodgy, the Aussies are ripe for the taking once again,” he further mentioned.

India aim for fifth straight Border Gavaskar Trophy

India’s last win in Australia in the 2020-21 edition is considered as one of the greatest comebacks in Test cricket after the shambles in Adelaide. Ajinkya Rahane led a spirited Indian team to glory in the face of adversity. Despite losing key players on the bench by the time of the series-decider in Brisbane, India clinched the four-match series 2-1 to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the third time in a row.

India completed a fourth series triumph at home last year but couldn’t get past the Pat Cummins-led side in the World Test Championship final of the 2021-23 cycle at The Oval.

India will play Bangladesh (2 Tests) and New Zealand (3 Tests) on home soil between late September and early November before taking on the mighty Aussies in a grueling season of Test cricket. Rohit & Co. will aim for a third appearance in the World Test Championship final next year.

As the Rohit Sharma-led side is scheduled to play five Tests against Australia in their backyard from November 2024 to January 2025, Gavaskar believes India will continue their domination against rivals from Down Under.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
