New Delhi: Indian pace bowler Mohammed Shami was sold to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) during the first day of the IPL 2025 auction held at the Abadi Al Johar Arena in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Sunday. The 34-year-old pacer was sold for a sizeable price of INR 10 crore.
Shami was part of the marquee players’ list and was the first player that went under the hammer after the break. Three-time IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) was the first team to bid for the speedster at his base price of INR 2 crore. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) became the first challenger to KKR to bid for the player.
Both teams were involved in a serious bidding till 8.25 crore before CSK pulled out of it. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) joined the KKR for another round, raising the paddle from INR 8.50 crore. The race was on for a short period before LSF also backed out. As it looked that KKR would secure Shami’s services, just then Sunrisers Hyderabad jumped in with an INR 10 crore bid.
That was the end of the bidding with no other team further interested to spend more money. Even Gujarat Titans, where Shami played his last season in 2023, decided not to use the Right-to-match (RTM) card option for the pacer.
David Miller goes to LSG for INR 7.50 crore to LSG
South African international batter David Miller was roped in by Lucknow Super Giants after the RPSG-owned franchise shelled out INR 7.50 crore for him. It was his former franchise Gujarat Titans who opened the bidding at INR 1.50 crore before Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) turned up as mere contenders. Titans were out of Miller’s race after the price went up to INR 5.25 crore.
Delhi Capitals extended the competition with RCB for the left-handed batter’s position, but bowed out of the race with price moving at INR 7.25. LSG came in with a bid of INR 7.50 crore and that was the one that sealed the deal as RCB decided not to challenge further. Surprisingly, Titans once again decided against the RTM option.
Mohammed Siraj goes to Gujarat Titans for INR 12.25 crore
Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj has apparently replaced Shami at the Gujarat Titans with the IPL 2022 champions bagging his services for INR 12.25 crore. Titans had to face challenge from CSK and Rajasthan Royals but remained resolute in their demand for the Hyderabad-born player.
