‘Take some time off the game’: Ricky Ponting’s advice to star Indian cricketer

New Delhi: Former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting has advised star Indian batter Virat Kohli to take some time off the game so as to regain form and same intensity which he used to possess. This comes after Kohli, who’s name has become synonymous with entertainment in the cricketing world, failed to impress the fans in the recently-concluded Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.

Kohli managed to amass only 190 runs in the entire tournament at a poor average of just above 23. After impressing all with his century knock in the series-opening Perth Test match, Kohli failed to deliver again in rest of the nine innings in the Test series. His struggles against the outside off stump deliveries continued in the entire five-match series as he was caught as many as eight times behind the stumps and on the slips.

Trying hard working against him

The former star Australian player said that the Indian batter has been trying hard to regain his form but this unfortunately is working against him. He can do it in a better manner after he tries to take some time off cricket and then come back to deliver again for his country. The former skipper’s frustration was visible after his dismissal in the last Test match against Australia in Sydney.

In an interaction with the ICC, Ponting said that ‘The challenge is, and I can see it with Virat now, you can see how much he wants it. He’s trying so hard that actually makes batting harder. The harder you try sometimes with batting, the less success you’re going to have,’ Ponting told..

The multiple-time World Cup winner gave his own example to advise batter Kohli to take it easy. He said that it is important for a player of his stature to think about the team first and take rest so that he is able to come out better.
