Chennai: Tamil Nadu’s principal opposition party the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) has announced that it has decided to boycott the upcoming by-election for the Vikravandi assembly seat, which fell vacant after the demise of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MLA N. Pugazhenthi. This comes after DMK, Paatali Makkal Katchi (PMK), and Naam Tazmizhar Katchi (NTK) announced their candidates. This move is considered a huge setback to the party as Vikravandi is considered an important seat in north Tamil Nadu. Former Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami alleged that the ruling DMK will use violence and money power to suppress voters’ rights.
