“I am heartbroken by RS Bharati’s comments regarding the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy issue. It has been 3 years since I joined politics. In 3 years, I have not filed a case against anyone for damages. For the first time, I have filed against RS Bharati. A compensation of Rs.1 crore has been demanded from Bharathi in this matter. The money so collected will be given to families affected in the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy, Annamalai told reporters at the court.

The former IPS officer also alleged that “many of the Chief Minister’s family members will go to jail if the CBI starts a probe.

The DMK has opposed to CBI inquiry into the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy issue because if the CBI investigates the Kallakurichi issue, the entire Tasmac should be investigated. Tasmac should investigate the liquor suppliers, Annamalai said.

After 66 people have died after consuming illicit liquor in Kallakurichi district last month, DMK organizational secretary RS Bharathi, who spoke to the media a few days ago, blamed Annamalai and the BJP for the incident, stating that the methanol used in the liquor was sourced from Puducherry, a state ruled by the BJP-led alliance.

He raised suspicion of conspiracy of Annamalai and BJP in the matter keeping in mind the Vikravandi by-election.

The tragedy occurred on June 18, 2024, and at least 61 people died and 118 people received treatment at different hospitals after consuming spurious liquor in Tamil Nadu’s Kallakurichi district.

Annamalai responded DMK leader RS Bharathi’s allegation by sending a legal notice to Bharathi, seeking Rs 1 crore in damages and accusing him of spreading false propaganda.  Tamil Nadu States News India: Top News India, States News, States News Headlines, Online State News India, State Politics news
