Tamil Nadu govt condemns Governor Ravi over saffron-clad photo of Thiruvalluvar on Raj Bhavan invitation

Chennai: An invitation issued by Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi for the celebration of ‘Thiruvalluvar Thirunaal Vizha’ on May 24 has sparked a controversy as it shows famous saint-poet Thiruvalluvar clad in saffron robes.

The ruling DMK party also raised questions about the event date. “Governor is becoming a joker. Who said May 24 is Thiruvalluvar Day? very person in Tamil Nadu knows that Thiruvalluvar Day is January 15. If somebody decides to distort history to their benefit, then we strongly condemn it, DMK leader TKS Elangovan said. Traditionally, the state celebrates Thiruvalluvar Day on January 16.

Similarly, Tamil Nadu Congress president Selvaperunthagai condemned Governor RN Ravi and said “he changed the government-approved photo of Thiruvalluvar and published the image based on caste and religion, which is illegal. It is reprehensible for the governor to do this.”

DMK’s ally MDMK and it’s Vaiko cahrged that Governor is making Raj Bhavan a laughing stock.
