Chennai: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rain warning for Nilgiri district and a heavy rain warning for Coimbatore district.
“The low pressure area that prevailed in the West Bengal Sea yesterday is prevailing in South Chhattisgarh and adjoining Vidarbha areas today. A new low-pressure area is likely to form over the Midwest and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal by July 19. Very heavy rain at one or two places in Nilgiri district, heavy to very heavy rain at one or two places in hilly areas of Coimbatore district, heavy rain at one or two places in hilly areas of Tirupur, Theni, Dindigul, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari districts likely in the next 24 hours,” the Meteorological Department said.

Similarly, Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning may occur at a couple of places in Tamil Nadu, Puduwai, and Karaikal on July 17. Also, strong surface winds may blow at 30-40 kmph. Heavy to very heavy rain at one or two places in the hilly areas of Nilgiri and Coimbatore districts and heavy rain at one or two places in the hilly areas of Tirupur, Theni, and Dindigul districts.
