Team India players practice fielding drills ahead of first T20I against Sri Lanka – WATCH

New Delhi: Team India will face Sri Lanka in the three-match T20I series starting on July 27 at the Pallekle International Cricket Stadium in Pallekele. It will be the first assignment of the new head coach Gautam Gambhir.

This will be India’s first bilateral series after the T20 World Cup win at the Barbados. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja announced their retirement from T20 internationals after the T20 World Cup victory.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced Suryakumar Yadav as the new captain of the T20Is after Rohit’s retirement. In a video shared by the BCCI on official on X, The Men in Blue were seen doing some intense fielding drills ahead of their first T20I match against Sri Lanka.

India’s fielding coach T Dilip divided the players into three teams led by Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya and Shubman Gill. He asked the players to hit the ball on the objects.

Suryakumar, Ravi Bishnoi, Rishabh Pant and Mohammed Siraj all hit the target. After the fielding drills, the players did some catching practice. All the members participated in both the sessions and were seen enjoying it.

‘My batting style won’t change’: Suryakumar Yadav

India’s new T20I skipper said that he’s completely changed man now and has learnt a lot of things about the captaincy from Rohit Sharma.

“From 2014-15 to now, it is almost 10 years. I’m a completely changed man now. I have learnt a lot of things about the captaincy, especially from Rohit Sharma” Suryakumar Yadav said in the pre-match press conference.

He also said that pressure is fun for him and his batting style won’t change because of the captaincy.
“My batting style won’t change. Pressure is fun. Captaincy has given me added responsibility. But my brand of cricket remains the same” he added.
