New Delhi: The modernisation and upgradation work of Begumpet railway station in the southern state of Telangana is in full swing. The Ministry of Railways has said that after redevelopment, passengers will get access to modern amenities and upgraded infrastructure at the station. Recently, the ministry kickstarted the redevelopment work at the Sonipat Junction Railway Station too in Haryana. The Government of India (GoI) is on a mission to renovate total of 1,309 such railway stations in the country under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.

According to the ministry, upon completion, the Begumpet railway station in Telengana station will provide advanced passenger amenities, improved areas among other world class facilities to the commuters.

A newly renovated A/C Waiting Lounge at Tiruchchirappalli Railway Station, Tamil Nadu.
The Railway Ministry informed that it had renovated A/C Waiting Lounge at Tiruchchirappalli Railway Station in Tamil Nadu. The ministry said the lounge will provide “Passengers a premium waiting experience and added convenience.”
Amrit Bharat Station Scheme
The GoI had launched the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme for development of railway stations in the country. Under this scheme, stations are being upgraded and modernised to improve amenities like free Wi-Fi, executive lounges, lifts/escalators, clean toilets, etc. The GoI also aims to implement following amenities like creation of city centres at railway stations, roof plazas, kiosks, spaces for business meetings, etc.
Amrit Stations
The state in which maximum number of railway stations will be renovated under this scheme is Uttar Pradesh. Total of 149 railway stations will be modernised followed by Maharashtra (123), West Bengal (94), Gujarat (87), Bihar (86), Rajasthan (82), Tamil Nadu (73), Andhra Pradesh (72) and others.
