New Delhi: Team India’s departure from Barbados and arrival in Delhi has been further delayed due to the threat of Hurricane Beryl in the Caribbean nation. Earlier, it was reported that The Men in Blue were expected to leave Barbados by 6 PM local time on Tuesday, July 2 and expected to reach Delhi by Wednesday evening.
But as per the latest update, the plan has changed and the arrival has been delayed. According to reports, the team may not arrive in Delhi before the early hours of Thursday morning, July 4.
Rohit Sharma and Co. defeated South Africa in the final and lifted the T20 World Cup trophy for the second time on Saturday, June 29. The Men in Blue remained undefeated throughout the tournament and ended India’s long-standing ICC trophy drought. But after the final, the team was stuck there as Hurricane Beryl made its landfall on July 1.
As per the previous reports, the Indian Cricket Team will directly fly to New Delhi, where they were expected to meet with the Prime Minister. However, the team, support staff, BCCI officials and their families have been stuck on the Island for the last two days.
The airport operations in the region have been closed and all the flights have been cancelled. The team members are currently stuck at their hotel as a precautionary measure and BCCI is looking to arrange a chartered flight to get players back home safely.
Jitesh, Sudharsan and Harshit Rana added to India’s squad
Sai, Sudharsan, Jitesh Sharma and Harshit Rana have been added to India’s squad for the first two T20I matches against Zimbabwe. They replaced Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube and Yashasvi Jaiswal in the team, who are set to travel to Zimbabwe only after reaching in India with the rest of the World Cup-winning team. The five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe will start from July 6.
