Hyderabad: Telangana BJP leaders staged a protest at Dharnachowk, near Indira Park in the city demanding the state government to constitute a CBI inquiry in the phone-tapping case.
Speaking at the protest, BJP MP and national president of OBC Morcha, K Laxman asked why CM Revanth Reddy was delaying a thorough investigation into the case.
Laxman alleged that ex-CM K Chandrasekhar Rao misused the surveillance system to perpetuate his power. “Phone-tapping was used to buy voters and beat opponents in the by-elections and previous government had hatched the scheme without the Centre’s approval, violating Telecom Regulatory Act,” he said.
He further stated that BJP will fight politically and legally till the culprits are punished. “The phone tapping case should be handed over to the CBI. The BRS government has filed bogus cases on BJP leader BL Santhosh. It is evil to file cases against BJP leaders just to save Kavitha from the liquor case,” he noted.
Laxman also stated that Revanth Reddy is treating the issues of BRS corruption as if they don’t matter. “Did the national leadership of Congress make a deal with KCR? The accused must be punished. We are also ready to take legal action.”
What is phone-tapping case?
Former Special Investigation Bureau (SIB) officers ex-DCP Radha Kishan Rao, ex-DSP Praneeth Rao, Additional CPs Bhujanga Rao and Tirupathanna, who are the accused in the case, confessed to police officials that as many as 1,200 phones of BRS rivals and others were tapped ahead of the 2023 Assembly elections.
The case came into light after ex-DSP Praneeth Rao was arrested in March for developing several profiles of private individuals without authorisation, monitoring their movements, erasing electronic evidence and destroying evidence after exit polls were released in December.
