Chennai: A 17-year-old boy who had completed his 12th class died of a suspected heatstroke at Thirunindravur in Chennai on Friday, May 31.
The deceased identified as Shakthi fainted because he could not withstand the hot sun when he went to attend the funeral of his class mate named Harisudhan, who died due to heart disease. He was rescued and admitted to Kilpakkam Government Hospital in Chennai where he died without responding to the treatment. The doctors who examined the him said that he died due to non-functioning of sweat glands and other side effects.
While the summer rains have faded in various districts including Chennai, now the city and it’s suburbs witnessing intense heatwave. Following the heatwave alert from Indian Metrological Department public advised not to venture outside in the open sun unnecessarily and drink enough water. High body temperature, confusion, sweating changes, nausea, might be the symptoms of heatstroke.
Meanwhile, Thirunindravur, the place where the boy died today recorded the temperature of 42.5° .
