Hyderabad: The counting of votes in Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda graduates MLC bypoll is underway for a second day on Thursday.
On the May 27, 3.36 lakh votes were cast in 605 polling centers in polling held in 12 districts. These votes are being counted in the warehouse of Duppalapalli Warehousing Corporation in Nalgonda and a total of 96 tables were arranged in four rooms with 24 tables in each hall.
Congress candidate takes lead after two rounds of counting:
After two rounds of first preference votes were counted, Congress candidate Teenmaar Mallanna alias Chinthapandu Naveen is leading with 34,575 votes while BRS candidate Rakesh Reddy is in second place with 27,573 votes.
A total of 1,92,277 votes were counted so far out of which 1,77,151 were valid votes and 15,126 were invalid votes. At least 1,46,029 first preference votes are yet to be counted.
Candidates in fray:
52 candidates contested in the election, including Teenmar Mallanna from Congress, Rakesh Reddy from BRS candidate and Premender Reddy as BJP candidate.
BRS candidate Palla Rajeshwar Reddy won the election held in March 2021 for this graduate MLC constituency. He won as an MLA from Jangaon Assembly constituency in state elections held last year and resigned as MLC. The by-poll is being held to elect another candidate to fill the vacant seat.
Results are likely to be declared today, reports said.
