New Delhi: India lifted their second T20 World Cup trophy after beating South Africa by seven runs in a nail-biting final at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on Saturday, June 29. It was a historic victory for Rohit Sharma & Co. as they became the first team to win the T20 World Cup title while remaining unbeaten throughout the tournament.
While Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya were India’s heroes with the ball in the final, Suryakumar Yadav produced an incredible relay catch in the final over of South Africa’s run-chase to seal the trophy for his team. David Miller slammed a full-toss from Hardik on the 1st ball of the 20th ball and the ball seemed to travel for a six.
However, with a leaping grab, Suryakumar cut it short near the boundary rope. His momentum pushed Suryakumar inside the boundary rope but he showed great presence of mind to throw the ball in the air before stepping inside the boundary rope and completing the catch after stepping outside the boundary rope. The stunning catch was the moment of the final as it sealed the win for India.
The catch has now sparked a controversy after a few South African fans claimed Suryakuamr didn’t complete it cleanly. A particular angle of the catch suggests that the boundary cushion moved when Suryakumar went for the catch, raising questions about the third umpire’s decision to give Miller out.
This certainly deserved more than one look, just saying. Boundary rope looks like it clearly moves. 🤷 pic.twitter.com/ulWyT5IJxy

What did Shaun Pollock say on SKY’s catch?
Sharing his take over the controversy surrounding Suryakumar’s catch of Miller in the summit clash, South Africa legend Shaun Pollock admitted the boundary cushion did move. However, he shut down the conspiracy theories by stating that there was nothing wrong with the catch and that the decision had nothing to do with Suryakumar, who did brilliantly to complete it.
“The catch was fine. The cushion had moved, but that’s in the course of the game. It had nothing to do with Surya. He didn’t stand on the cushion. Brilliant bit of skill,” Pollock told a reporter.
