New Delhi: Team India will be helmed by its pace stalwart Jasprit Bumrah in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy which starts on November 22 at the Perth Stadium. The excitement is at its all-time high as cricket fans from India and Australia are in for a treat for the coming month and a half. Amidst all the Test cricket craze, Jasprit Bumrah, who will act as the stand-in skipper for Team India, opined on how great of an opportunity this is.
Bumrah, who was named the vice-captain of India for the five-Test BGT series, was announced as the skipper for the Perth Test after it was confirmed that Rohit Sharma will be missing the opener. It is also noteworthy that for the very first time, the two teams led by “pacers” will lock horns in the BGT. The BCCI shared a video on the eve of the first Test in which Bumrah reflected on leading India and the dream that he carried as a child.
“I love responsibility. I wanted to do the tough job since I was a child. You know you always want to be in the thick of things, you want to be thrown against tough scenarios,” Bumrah said in the video. “I have always never followed a copybook plan. I go with my instincts and I always have been wanting to add more. This adds a new challenge to me,” the right-arm pacer added.
“There’s no greater honour than this that as a child I always wanted to play this format and you know, leading India in Test cricket, yeah I’m very privileged and very happy to be in this position,” Bumrah shared his excitement.

Bumrah on Rohit and Shami
At the pre-match press conference on Thursday, Bumrah talked about regular skipper Rohit Sharma that he is in constant touch with him. “I spoke with Rohit earlier. But I got a little bit of clarity on leading the side after coming in here,” Bumrah informed the media. He also shared an update on Mohammed Shami and hinted at the likely inclusion of him in the India squad.
“Shami bhai has started to play cricket, and obviously, he is an integral part of this team. I’m sure the management is also keeping a keen eye. Hopefully, things fall in place and you might see him here as well,” Bumrah explained.
