New Delhi: Virat Kohli didn’t enjoy a great outing in the first Test between India and Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai but will be eyeing the legendary Sachin Tendulkar’s massive record when he takes the field for India in the 2nd Test against the visitors in Kanpur. Kohli is 35 runs away from breaking Tendulakar’s record for being the fastest to 27,000 runs in international cricket t.
Kohli returned with scores of 6 and 17 in the two innings in the Chennai Test against Bangladesh to take his overall tally to 26965 runs in international cricket. The senior India batter is only 35 runs away from completing 27,000 runs in all formats combined and will become the fastest to do so, surpassing Tendulkar.
Tendulkar currently holds the record for being the fastest batter to complete 27,000 runs in international cricket having scaled the milestone in 623 innings. Kohli, who has 26965 runs to his name in a total of 591 innings can not only break Tendulkar’s record but also become the only batter to reach Mt.27k in less than 600 innings.
Kohli will also become only the 2nd Indian and the 4th batter overall to complete 27,000 runs in international cricket. Ricky Ponting and Kumar Sangakkara are the other two batters, who have amassed more than 27,000 runs in their international careers.
Virat Kohli aims to get back among runs
Kohli will be aiming to get back among the runs for India after his poor outing in the series opener in Chennai. The senior India batter looked determined to bounce back as he was spotted practising in the nets mid-match during Day 3 of the recently concluded Chennai Test between India and Bangladesh. Kohli was seen facing India’s throwdown specialists while Day 3’s play was underway at Chepauk.
Kohli made his Test comeback for India after a long break as he was not named in the Duleep Trophy squads along with senior players like Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah. It was also Kohli’s first Test since January this year as he had decided to skip the home Test series against England earlier this year due to the birth of his son.
Team India star Virat Kohli needs 35 runs to break Sachin Tendulkar’s record for fastest to 27,000 runs in international cricket. Kohli will become the first batter to achieve the remarkable feat in less than 600 innings. Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
