New Delhi: Rahmanullah Gurbaz was elated and upbeat after Afghanistan’s historic win against Australia in the T20 World Cup 2024 on Sunday, June 23. Afghanistan pulled off their first-ever win against Australia in international cricket after defeating Mitchell Marsh & Co. by 21 runs in their Super 8 clash at the Arnos Vale Ground in St Vincent. Gurbaz starred in the win with a brilliant knock of 60 runs off 49 balls.
The Afghanistan dressing room was fired up after their sensational victory against the mighty Aussies as raw emotions were on display from the players. Afghanistan came close to staging a mighty upset against Australia in the ODI World Cup last year but failed to do so after a special knock from Glenn Maxwell, who single-handedly saved Australia from an embarrassing defeat.
However, there was no Maxwell special for Australia on Sunday as they failed to chase down a moderate target of 149 runs in St Vincent to suffer their first-ever defeat against Afghanistan across all formats. Afghanistan completed their revenge for last year’s defeat with a memorable win which will go down in history as one of their most famous victories of all time.
A pumped-up Gurbaz was spotted roaring in the Afghanistan dressing room following the victory in a video shared by the ICC. “They hurt us in the ODI (World Cup), now we hurt them… Baat khatam (It’s settled),” shouted Gurbaz.

In the same video, Afghanistan skipper Rashid Khan can be spotted saying that 23 has become his favourite number because his team defeated Pakistan on October 23 in the ODI World Cup last year and have now defeated Australia in the T20 World Cup 2024 on June 23.
Afghanistan alive in the race for semi-finals
With their stunning win against Australia, Afghanistan are now alive in the race for the semi-finals and have opened up Group 1. Afghanistan need to beat Bangladesh in their final Super Eight clash on Monday and hope India beat Australia in their final match. If both results go in their favour, Afghanistan will qualify for the semis with India.
Afghanistan wicket-keeper batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz was pumped and elated in the dressing room as he reacted to his team’s historic win against Afghanistan in the T20 World Cup 2024 on Sunday. Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
