New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have announced the squad for the upcoming white-ball tour against Sri Lanka. The Men in Blue will take on Sri Lanka in the three-match T20I and ODI series, starting from July 27.
Rohit will lead Team India in the ODI series and Suryakumar Yadav has been appointed as the new T20I captain, replacing all-rounder Hardik Pandya. The star Indian batter Virat Kohli is also back in the team for the ODI series. While Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah have been rested from the tour.
Shreyas Iyer who was removed from BCCI’s central contract is also back in the ODI team. Harshit Rana also got his maiden call-up for the ODI series. But some big names are not part of the Sri Lanka tour.
Three big names who missed out on the white-ball tour against Sri Lanka
Ruturaj Gaikwad (T20Is)
One of the promising batsmen and a genuine contender to be India’s next top order batter has been dropped from the ODI and T20I squad of the Sri Lanka series. Gaikwad had a brilliant T20I series against Zimbabwe where he scored 133 runs at an average of 66.50 in three innings. Overall, Gaikwad has scored 633 runs in 23 T20 matches at an average of 39.56. He didn’t performed well in the opportunities he got so far in the 50-over format but had a great potential.
Sanju Samson (ODIs)
Samson scored a brilliant century in the last ODI series against South Africa and helped Team India to post a defendable total on the scoreboard. But he was dropped from the ODI series. Samson is part of the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka.
Abhishek Sharma (T20Is)
After the sensational IPL 2024 campaign, Abhishek Sharma got his maiden India call-up for the five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe. He was dismissed for a four-ball duck on debut, but made a stunning comeback in the second T20I and scored a century in 48 balls. Abhishek was expected to be part of the Sri Lanka series after a brilliant performance in Zimbabwe but his name was missing from the list.
