New Delhi: Ace Indian athlete Neeraj Chopra finished with a silver medal in the men’s javelin throw final in the Paris Olympics final held on Thursday at the Stade de France. Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem finished on the pole position with an Olympic record of 92.97m, bettering the previous record held by Andreas Thorkildsen of Norway (90.57m).
The 26-year-old Indian track and field athlete has maintained his status of being a top-classed athlete over the last four years. While defending his gold medal in the 12-men final in the French capital, Neeraj hurled the javelin as long as 89.45m distance to settle for a silver medal. It was his second best throw of his short but glittering career on the field.
However, barring his best throw of the night, the star Indian athlete recorded an unprecedented five fouls, crumbling under pressure, slipping down in three of those five fouls. It wasn’t a best for the Olympic and World champion but he at least had a silver medal around his neck to prolong his legacy in the years to come.
Just two days after throwing his career’s second best throw of 89.34m to qualify for the final in his first attempt itself, Neeraj bettered the throw with a vaiant effort of 89.45m just after his Pakistan rival Arshad Nadeem challenged him with a monstrous 92.97m throw.
