Top 5 replacements for Trent Alexander-Arnold as Real Madrid steps up transfer

Top 5 replacements for Trent Alexander-Arnold as Real Madrid steps up transfer

New Delhi: The prospect of Liverpool losing right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold is becoming more real, with La Liga giants Real Madrid trying to get him signed. If the Reds fail to offer a good contract, it could happen sooner rather than later, as Madrid is already plotting a second bid after Arnold rejected the first bid on New Year’s Eve.

Trent has played a pivotal role in Liverpool’s success under Jürgen Klopp and is widely considered the best right-back in the world. The 26-year-old possesses a remarkable skillset. Arnold boasts a magical right foot, capable of delivering precise and deadly passes that perfectly set up attackers ahead of him.

Liverpool are not ready to sell Alexander-Arnold this month, but as he enters the final six months of his contract at Anfield, it might not be possible to keep him for much longer. The Reds will have to start looking for potential replacements. Let’s take a closer look at the potential replacements at right back.

Jeremie Frimpong- Bayern Leverkusen

Jeremie Frimpong is the prime target to fill the void if Alexander-Arnold leaves Liverpool.  The 24-year-old boasts great attacking capabilities and is now even a regular for Xabi Alonso’s Bayern Leverkusen. A former Manchester City academy graduate played in Leverkusen’s 4-0 defeat at Anfield earlier in what could prove to be his audition for a move to be part of Arne Slot’s squad.

The Dutchman has a reported £33 million release clause in his Leverkusen contract. This aligns perfectly with the club’s strategy of pursuing opportunistic signings during the summer transfer window. Moreover, Frimpong’s history at City qualifies him as homegrown under Premier League regulations, which would aid in replacing Alexander-Arnold in this aspect.

Conor Bradley- Liverpool

Liverpool may not need to enter the transfer market since they have a ready-made replacement for Alexander-Arnold in Bradley. There is a chance that he will remain as the first-choice player, having made 40 appearances for the Reds in all competitions. He enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2023/24 and displayed a spectacular man-of-the-match performance against Chelsea in February to make his case more assertive.

Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp also spoke highly of him when, in December 2021, he dipped his toe in first-team action as a fresh-faced 18-year-old Carabao Cup. However, a few months later, he was sent on loan to Bolton and quickly made an impression there. His attacking prowess didn’t come as a surprise, and he proved himself. The 21-year-old doesn’t have the same passing range as his teammate yet he possesses an impressive all-round game and boasts more defensive solidarity.

Joshua Kimmich- Bayern Munich

Another potential replacement that could be available at the end of the season, Kimmich, could be an unconventional replacement for Alexander-Arnold. The Bayern star is capable of playing as a right-back or a defensive midfielder. However, at 29 and about to turn 30 next month, he doesn’t align with the type of player FSG typically pursues.

Kimmich is a proven top-class talent, and Liverpool could make an exception this time. Even if Liverpool only benefits from him for a few years that could be enough to help Brandley along and further in his development.

Pedro Porro- Tottenham Hotspur

🥈 Dejan Kulusevski – 1694 minutes
🥉 Destiny Udogie – 1685 minutes

Pedro Porro joined Tottenham from Sporting Cp in January 2023 and has established himself as one of the best right-backs in the Premier League. The 25-year-old has thrived under Ange Postecoglou’s possession-based system and possesses the ability to invert into midfield. The Spaniard is also renowned for his attacking prowess and has contributed a total of 21 goals in the Premier League since his debut.

Porro levels with Alexander Arnold, who also has 21 direct goal contributions for the Reds in the same time frame in the Premier League. He is also linked with a move to Real Madrid, although the La Liga giants won’t sign him if they succeed in securing Arnold’s signature. Pedro won’t come easily, and the Reds will have to submit a bid in the region of £ 60 million to get him around the negotiation table.

Vanderson- AS Monaco

Vanderson won’t be a name many Liverpool fans will be familiar with yet, but the 23-year-old right-back has been impressive since his move to AS Monaco from Girona in 2022. He made his international debut in 2023 and has earned four caps for Brazil. The defender would represent a good long-term option.

Vanderson is always electric in the penalty area, as his movement causes opposition problems. He was caught offside listed as one of the players Liverpool was aiming for as a possible replacement for Alexander-Arnold back in October, rousing the Kop and confirming the Reds were doing their “duel diligence” on the players a month later.
