New Delhi: Mumbai cricket team defeated Baroda by eight wickets in the first semifinal match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy played at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Friday. Riding on the blistering ton of senior opener Ajinkya Rahane, Mumbai chased the moderate target of 159 with 16 balls to spare.
Rahane scored 98 runs off 56 balls to set the tone for his team, tonking the balls nonchalantly for big hits. He hammered 11 fours and five sixes to toy with the indiscipline bowling unit of Baroda.
However, the player couldn’t reach his third T20 century when Mumbai needed just one run to seal the chase. It required Rahane to hit the boundary to complete the three-figure score, and its pursuit, the former captain found a leading edge only for Baroda keeper Vishnu Solanki to pouch it.

Ajinkya Rahane power-fired Mumbai to 159-run chase with his masterclass 98, though he fell short of a well-deserved century. Mumbai will move to their second Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final after winning their maiden title in 2022.
