On Tuesday, the Delhi High Court granted bail to Sukanya Mondal, who had been detained by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money laundering case involving a cattle smuggling operation in West Bengal. The court noted that the trial could be lengthy. Sukanya, the daughter of Trinamool Congress leader Anubrata Mondal, who is also in custody for the same case, was granted bail by Justice Neena Bansal Krishna. Sukanya, who has been in custody since April 26, 2023, was eligible for bail under Section 45 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) due to her gender. The court required Sukanya to post a personal bond of Rs 10 lakh with a matching surety and ordered her to seek court permission before leaving the country and to avoid influencing witnesses or tampering with evidence.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Tuesday, that the Mithun, a bovine species scientifically known as Bos Frontalis, has been spotted in Assam for the first time. The Mithun is the state animal of Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland and is also found in the hills of Manipur and Mizoram.
