New Delhi: The inevitable took place at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday after the first day of the first Test match between India and New Zealand was called off due to torrential rain. As expected from Tuesday, rain was supposed to play a spoilsport in the game on the opening day but a complete washout was not on the cards as weather gods were expected to stay calm for a while, allowing the commencement of the game.
But unfortunately, showers, which became intermittent after a heavy spell early in the morning, did not allow the toss to take place and eventually the day’s play had to be called out. Umpires, the ground staff, players and the spectators waited till 2.30 PM on October 16 from morning 9 AM with the hope of seeing some live action at the famous stadium but after the first two sessions were washed out due to continous rain, umpires decided to call off the day’s play as it didn’t stop raining.

Play to take place on Day 2?
As per the weather forecast in the city for the remaining four days, rain is expected to play a spoilsport but a clarity on whether it will allow some play still remains. As per BCCI’s update for Thursday, the toss is set to take place at 8.45 AM IST on the second day and the play will start at 9.15 AM IST, if rain does not continue to interrupt the proceedings on Thursday.
Umpires conducted multiple inspections on the opening day of the five-day affair with the hope that live action could take place in Bengaluru keeping in mind the remarkable drainage system at the Chinnaswamy Stadium but continuous downpour acted as the villain, not allowing even a single ball to take place.
