New Delhi: The final day of the transfer window is bound to bring some madness as clubs look to finalize their deals before the window shuts, bringing a lot of drama. This year’s deadline day was no different with clubs like Chelsea, Manchester United, Napoli and AS Roma involved in some of the major moves that took place in the final 24 hours of the transfer window.
The final day of the transfer window saw some major deals go through as clubs strengthened their squad for one final time in 2024. Chelsea and Manchester United were amongst the busiest clubs of the window, with both English sides working on incomings as well as outgoings on the day, especially Chelsea. A lot of the German and Italian clubs were also involved in some of the biggest moves that took place.
The addition of the Saudi clubs also added an interesting twist to the deadline day and this isn’t the last we hear of them as the Saudi Pro League’s transfer window shuts on Monday, September 02 and they can still buy players from leagues whose transfer window just ended. While a lot of outgoings from clubs were expected, two major players decided not to move.
Crystal Palace managed to keep hold of their star defender Marc Guehi, meaning Newcastle United’s pursuit of the defender ended in vain. Meanwhile, Kingsley Coman also rejected a big-money move to the Middle East as he rejected the approach of Saudi’s most successful side, Al-Hilal, turning down the chance to play in the same team as Neymar, in order to fight for his place at Bayern Munich.
10) Scott McTominay (Manchester United to Napoli)
Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay finally leaves the club on deadline day after being linked with a move away from the club all summer. The 27-year-old becomes the latest Premier League player to head to an Italian adventure as he signs for Antonio Conte’s Napoli. The Italian club sign the midfielder in a deal worth £25 million and the player agrees to a five-year contract with the Naples club.
McTominay initially looked to stay in the Premier League as a move to Fulham looked to be on the cards but the London club didn’t meet Manchester United’s demands and the deal never materialized. He now joins a new-look Napoli side under Conte as they look to bounce back from a terrible 2023/24 season. Joining McTominay in Naples is fellow Scottish midfielder Billy Gilmour as he moves from Brighton.
9) Tammy Abraham (AS Roma to AC Milan)
AS Roma striker Tammy Abraham joins Italian giants AC Milan on a season-long loan after falling out of favour at the club. The English striker moves to Milan three years into his Roma career following his £34 million move to the Italian capital. He leaves the club after scoring 37 goals in 120 games for AS Roma, helping the club win the inaugural UEFA Europa Conference League in his first season at the club.
He will be reunited with former Chelsea teammates at AC Milan as former Chelsea academy products Ruben Loftus Cheek and Fikayo Tomori both ply their trade for the Rossoneri. They are joined by another former Chelsea player, Christian Pulisic who joined the club last summer. As part of the deal to bring Tammy to the club, AC Milan have also loaned out Belgian winger Alexis Saelemaekers to AS Roma for the 2024/25 season.
8) Eddie Nketiah (Arsenal to Crystal Palace)
Crystal Palace announce the signing of Arsenal forward Eddie Nketiah in the final minutes of the transfer window. The Eagles get their man in a deal worth £25 million with £5 million being paid in add-ons. He joins his third London club after previously spending time at both Chelsea and Arsenal. Nketiah’s move to Crystal Palace makes him the third significant sale for Arsenal in the window.

The English striker was linked with a host of moves during the summer with moves to Nottingham Forest and Olympique Marseille falling through for multiple reasons. He leaves the club after making 168 appearances for the club and scoring 38 goals for the Gunners and signs with Crystal Palace on a five-year contract.
7) Neto (AFC Bournemouth to Arsenal)
Brazilian goalkeeper Neto joins the Gunners from AFC Bournemouth on a season-long loan deal as a replacement for Aaron Ramsdale, who left earlier in the day to join the newly promoted Southampton. The Cherries captain leaves the club after making 63 appearances for the club since joining from FC Barcelona in August 2022. The deal to bring Neto doesn’t involve an option or an obligation to buy the player but the London club will cover his entire salary.
Neto had verbally agreed to move to the Gunners earlier in the day but Mikel Arteta’s side were trying to bring Espanyol goalkeeper Joan García as a replacement for Ramsdale but couldn’t agree with a deal with the Spanish club. Kepa Arrizabalaga’s arrival at Bournemouth from Chelsea allowed the Brazillian keeper join the Gunners for the 2024/25 season.
6) James Ward Prowse (West Ham to Nottingham Forest)
West Ham midfielder James Ward Prowse leaves the London Stadium on a season-long loan as he becomes a part of Nottingham Forest’s summer spending spree. The English midfielder joins Nuno Santo’s side for the 2024/25 season after a crazy summer of overhauls at West Ham United. A set-piece specialist, he joins the club after making 37 appearances for West Ham last season, helping the side finish inside the top half of the table.

He adds a wealth of Premier League experience to this Nottingham side having played for West Ham and Southampton in the league, making his name with the Saints. West Ham, meanwhile, are working to finalize the deal to bring Spanish midfielder Carlos Soler from French giants PSG as part of their own shopping spree under new manager Julen Lopetegui.
5) Manu Koné (Borussia Monchengladbach to AS Roma)
Highly rated Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Manu Koné leaves the German club to sign for Italian outfit AS Roma on a loan deal with an obligation to buy the midfielder for €20 million. An extremely talented midfielder, he has been linked with multiple clubs over the past few years, and finally moves on from Monchengladbach to new pastures. He will don the number 17 jersey for the club.
The French midfielder, who won the Silver medal at the recently concluded Summer Olympics with France, joined the German club from Toulouse in his home country and went on to make 86 appearances for the club. Capable of playing either as a central midfielder or as a defensive midfielder, he becomes the latest member of Roma’s summer haul of players as they also signed players like Angelino and Artem Dovbyk earlier in the window.
4) Carlos Soler (PSG to West Ham United)
West Ham United ended their summer shopping spree with the signing of PSG midfielder Carlos Soler as he became their ninth signing of the transfer window. Soler joins the London club on a season-long loan deal with an obligation to buy the player next summer for around £20 million. His arrival at the London stadium allowed the Hammers to let James Ward Prowse leave the club on a loan to Nottingham Forest.
Soler made a name for himself at Spanish outfit Valencia, for whom he made over 200 appearances before moving to PSG in the summer of 2022. He made 63 appearances for PSG and contributed to 16 goals but couldn’t consistently hold down a starting spot in a star-studded PSG squad. West Ham had a brilliant transfer window as they brought in players like Niklas Fullkrug, Crysencio Summerville, Jean-Claire Todibo and now Soler, and will be looking to challenge for one of the European spots for sure.
3) Raheem Sterling (Chelsea to Arsenal)
Chelsea and Arsenal have reached an agreement to sign Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling on a season-long loan without an option or an obligation to buy the English winger. The 29-year-old left Chelsea in the final minutes of the transfer window as he was excluded from the first-team squad by new manager Enzo Maresca. The Italian made it clear in a press conference recently that Sterling wouldn’t be getting any minutes if he remained at the club beyond the transfer window.

The Blues were looking to involve him in a swap deal with Manchester United but the Red Devils weren’t interested in having the winger onboard. Arsenal came late into the fray for Sterling’s signature but manager Mikel Arteta had worked with Sterling before while they were both at Manchester City so he appreciated the player. Arsenal needed to bring in a winger to provide cover for Bukayo Saka, and with Sterling being able to play on either side of the wing, they decided to sign the winger.
2) Manuel Ugarte (PSG to Manchester United)
Manchester United left it till the last day to complete their most-awaited transfer of the entire window. Defensive midfielder Manuel Ugarte finally joined the club on deadline day from French outfit PSG. The 23-year-old moves to Manchester following just one season with PSG. He moved to the French champions last summer but struggled to adapt to the team and didn’t have the best of times in Paris.
Ugarte joins the club in a deal worth £42 million which could potentially reach £50 million if certain add-on clauses are met. He joins the club on a five-year contract with an option to extend for another year and becomes the club’s fifth major signing of the summer. He had agreed on personal terms with the club in July but had to wait till the final of the window as the club wanted to offload Scott McTominay before bringing the Uruguayan.
1) Jadon Sancho (Manchester United to Chelsea)
The marquee move of the transfer window came within the final two hours of the transfer window as Manchester United agreed to loan out English winger Jadon Sancho to Chelsea. The London club agreed to sign the winger on a season-long loan with an obligation to buy the winger next year. The fee that the Blues will have to pay is reported to be around £25 million.

Sancho joins Chelsea after a disappointing time in Manchester but after a good second half of last season, on loan at Borussia Dortmund. A London-born national, Sancho is a product of the Manchester City academy and has spent time developing under current Chelsea co-director of recruitment and talent Joe Shields, who was pushing for a move for the winger. He became the final player to join Chelsea in yet another mad transfer window under the new owners as Chelsea ended the window with 14 new signings.
Clubs across the top five leagues of the world were scrambling about on the final day of the window to capture their targets. Dive in to look at the major deals that happened in the last 24 hours. Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
