New Delhi: It was absolute madness from the prolific Travis Head as he completely wrecked havoc on Scotland bowlers to power Australia to a commanding victory in the first T20I match at Edinburgh. In one of the craziest run-chases ever witnessed in the history of T20 cricket, Australia chased down 155 runs in just 9.4 overs as Head unleashed his beast mode with a 25-ball 80-run knock.
The Australia batter, who is known for triggering mayhem often on the field with his ruthless knocks, did what he’s best known for as he smashed 12 fours and 5 massive sixes, making a mockery of the Scottish bowlers. Chasing 155, Australia (156/3) won the match with seven wickets to spare with Head and skipper Mitchell Marsh (39) being the major contributors.
Josh Inglis did the formalities towards the end with unbeaten 27 runs. Jake Fraser-McGurk was out for a duck in his debut T20I match for Australia. For Scotland, Mark Watt picked two wickets.
Australia script world record in chase
Australia scripted a new world record in the history of T20Is after they registered the highest-ever powerplay total (113/1) in the chase. Courtesy Head’s lethal knock, who also scored the joint-fastest fifty for Australia in just 17 balls, the visitors showed no mercy for the hosts in the series opener. He also became the 4th Australian batsman to score more than 1300 T20 runs in a calendar year.
