UAE emerges as potential host for women’s T20 World Cup after BCCI’s refusal – Report

New Delhi: The United Arab Emirates has emerged as the potential host of the women’s T20 World Cup but the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has demanded more time to save the tournament from being moved out of the country.

As per the Cricbuzz report, The International Cricket Council (ICC) is looking at Abu Dhabi and Dubai to host the tournament and is expected to make a decision on August 20, when an online meeting of the directors is scheduled.

A BCB official has said that they have requested ICC for five more days before making a call. If ICC decides to give more time then the decision might come on the day of the board meeting, August 20. Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka are also interested in hosting the event but ICC is looking at a host country with a similar time zone to Bangladesh and UAE fits that criteria.

The time is running out as the tournament is scheduled to start on September 27 with warm-up matches. Earlier the BCB has written to the Army chief regarding the security assurance for the tournament.

The report further said that the agenda for the August 20 meeting by the ICC is believed to finalising the term of reference for an inquiry into the delivery of the recently concluded Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 hosted by the West Indies and USA.

BCCI declined to host the tournament

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has declined the ICC’s to host the tournament. The BCCI secretary Jay Shah said that ICC asked them to host the tournament but the board said no due to the monsoon season and India will also host the women’s ODI World Cup next year.

“They (ICC) have asked us if we would conduct the World Cup. I have categorically said no. We’re in the monsoon and on top of that we will host the women’s ODI World Cup next year. I don’t want to give any kind of signals that I want to hold consecutive World Cups” Shah said on Times of India.

ICC unveiled the schedule of the Women’s T20 World Cup to be hosted by Bangladesh from October 3-20 in May but due to the recent events in the country, the tournament might be moved to UAE.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
