Team Bangladesh arrive in Chennai for first Test vs India – WATCH

New Delhi: The Bangladesh cricket team arrived in India on Sunday for their two-Test contest and three-match T20I series against the hosts. Boarding a flight from Dhaka, the team landed in Chennai, the venue for the opening Test that begins on September 19, on Sunday afternoon. Before the departure, skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto said that the team is riding high on confidence for the Test series after their recent historic win against Pakistan.

The “X” (formerly Twitter) handle of the Bangladesh team posted a short video of their journey to the Tamil Nadu capital from Dhaka which also included their arrival at the airport and a warm welcome at a hotel. All the players checked in as hotel staff showered them with rose petals and put shawls around their necks.

Security measures for Bangladesh team

The security was adequate for the visitors as the team bus that they boarded at the Chennai airport for the hotel was accompanied by two police vans. It was a usual security protocol for the Tigers as it happens for all the international teams. The entire Bangladesh team will be staying on one of the floors of the hotel with armed security personnel keeping an eye, which is another regular protocol.

The Bangla Tigers are visiting India after they witnessed civil unrest back home for over a month that was caused by widespread students’ protests. This led to the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and reports of communal clashes with attacks targeted on minorities, specially Hindus have been surfacing for some time now.

Nonetheless, BCCI secretary Jay Shah has already assured the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) of proper security measures in place during the team’s three week stay in the nation. According to PTI, Bangladesh will begin their training on Monday. The two-match Test series is a part of the 2023-25 World Test Championship cycle in which India are placed at the top while Bangladesh have raised themselves to the fourth position with their recent heroics.
