New Delhi: Spain’s teen prodigy Lamine Yamal has had a terrific time in Germany so far, chilling with Nico Williams, terrorizing the opposition defence, and also racking up three assists on his way. The young Barcelona winger has been the key ‘man’ for Spain in their run to the semi-finals and has made his mark in the semi-finals as well.

The 16-year-old speedster shuffled the ball from his right foot to his left to send Adrien Rabiot the wrong way and beautifully curled his effort towards the goal, beating Mike Maignan on its way as it hit the post on its way in. This was Yamal’s first goal of the tournament and the goal was worth the wait.

His goal against France made him the youngest goalscorer in UEFA Euro history aged 16 years 362 days. He breaks a 20-year record held by Switzerland’s Johan Vonlanthen, who was 18 years 141 days at the UEFA Euro 2004. Having already become the youngest player to appear and assist at the tournament, this is another record that the youngster has fetched for himself.
Not only is Yamal now the youngest goal-scorer in this competition, but he has also become the youngest scorer at any major tournament, breaking a record set in the 1958 FIFA World Cup by a certain Brazilian player by the name of Pele, who was 17 years 239 days when he scored against Wales.
