New Delhi: The quartet of Rodri, Fabian Ruiz, Nico Williams, and Dani Olmo entered the scoresheet for Spain, beating a brave Georgia 4-1 at Euro 2024 on Sunday and setting up a blockbuster quarter-final against hosts Germany. The round of 16 clash has knocked Georgia out of the tournament who will exit with pride. Georgia got a stunning lead in the 18th minute when Robin Le Normand entered his own net to send the Georgian supporters into a frenzy.
It was the first goal Spain had conceded at the competition but they were able to equalise the lead six minutes before the half-time whistle, courtesy of Manchester City midfielder Rodri. Ruiz came in with a header in the 51st minute followed by Williams who ran through for the third. The final scoring came in the form of substitute Olmo who made sure that La Roja stayed on track to lay their hands on fourth European glory.
Spain will be up against Germany in the last eight battle scheduled in Stuttgart on Friday in what will be a repeat of the Euro 2008 final, which they won 1-0 and started their golden era in international football. For Georgia, it is highly noteworthy that they were able to qualify for a first major tournament and then made it to the knockout stages with a shocking 2-0 win over Portugal. They will surely go home with pride and their chins up despite eventually crumbling against Spain.

After a blunder involving Le Normand, Kakabadze, and Kvaratskhelia, the ball rebounded off the Spanish center-back and was into the net for the eighth own goal of Euro 2024. The equaliser arrived when Rodri controlled a pass from Williams at the edge of the box and struck the ball into the corner. Spain were put into the lead shortly after, as Lamine Yamal crossed from the right for Ruiz to score a header, his second goal of the tournament.

Ruiz then released Williams who ran from inside his own half and went past Giorgi Gvelesiani into the box to fire into the roof of the net, making it 3-1 on 75 minutes. With seven minutes left, a delightful control and finish from the edge of the box by Olmo put the game to bed.
