New Delhi: The best goal scorers in Europe are battling for the Golden Boot race at Euro 2024, the award that is given to the top scorer of the tournament. The race to top the scoring charts is getting heated up with it now confirmed England and Spain will battle it out for the 17th European Championship title.
With England facing Spain in the final, the race for the Euro 2024 Golden Boot is wide open. This battle for individual glory could also determine which nation ends its trophy drought—England seeking its first major title since 1966 or Spain aiming for a record-extending fourth European Championship.
Harry Kane entered the contender’s race after scoring from the controversial penalty awarded to England in their semi-final against the Netherlands. Spanish striker Dani Olmo scored the third goal in their blockbuster semi-final showdown with France in Munich.
Although these two are the active contenders for the title, the other four – Jamal Musiala, Georges Mikautadze, and Ivan Schranz are still topping the charts with them despite their team’s respective exits.

What happens if there is a tie?
If more than one player has the same number of goals at the end of the tournament, the player with the most assists will decide the tiebreaker. If there are still more than one player tied, the award will go to the player who has the fewest minutes played.
The Golden Boot award was split if there were multiple top scorers before the tiebreaker was implemented in 2008.
Favourite to win Golden Boot
England’s Harry Kane and Spain’s Dani Olmo are still left with the opportunity to score. Harry Kane was the pre-tournament favourite to top the chart and will likely take the crown home.
While one can not underestimate Olmo, Kane is England’s all-time record goal scorer and has scored an incredible 44 goals through 45 matches across all competitions in his first season for Bayern Munich in 2023/24.
In Euro 2022, Harry Kane scored four goals, one goal behind the leading top scorers.
But if a situation of deadlock occurs, Dani Olmo will have an edge as he has the most assists (2), and Kane has nil.
