New Delhi: Joaquin Buckley became the third fighter in the UFC to finish Colby Covington. Buckley defeated Covington via Doctor’s stoppage in the third round at the Amalie Arena in Tampa on December 15, Sunday. It was just the proper dominance of Buckley against Covington. Buckley hit an uppercut in the first round that caused a nasty cut over Covington’s eye.
The cut on Covington’s eye started pouring blood from the first round, giving Buckley an early advantage. Buckley targeted the cut throughout the fight and landed more punches in the second round. Buckley was landing more shots compared to Covington in the fight and was leading the first two rounds.
Buckley was pushing hard until referee Dan Miragliotta was forced to stop the fight as Covington took more damage in the fight and wasn’t fully fit to complete the fight.
“He’s going to lose his eyelid,” the ringside physician said to the referee and the referee stopped the fight at 4:42 min in the third round.
In the co-main event, Billy Quarantillo knocked out Cub Swanson in the third round and came back in the winning column again. The 41-year-old started the fight with a straight right hand. Both featherweights landed big shots on each other in the first two rounds but Swanson set up Quarantillo in the first round.
Manel Kape also knocked out Bruno Silva and called out UFC Flyweight champion Alexander Pantoja for a title fight. The four out of five fights in the main card of UFC Tampa was finished under three rounds.
