New Delhi: Negotiations between PGA Tour and the Saudi Arabia-backed LIV are moving in a positive direction, said Tiger Woods, noting that only a fruitful agreement could heal the fractured landscape of golf.
Woods is leading the negotiations and is part of the PGAT Tour board that is involved in negotiations with Saudi’s Public Investment Fund.
“I think that things are going to heal quickly. We’re going to get this game going in the right direction,” Woods said in the CBS booth at the Genesis Invitational.
“It’s been heading in the wrong direction for a number of years and the fans want all of us to play together, all the top players playing together and we’re going to make that happen.”
Woods said ongoing negotiations are in a very positive place now though he didn’t divulge when the next meeting could be held. Reports said a transaction subcommittee is scheduled to meet next week with the PIF.
LIV Golf had signed several top golfers away from the PGA Tour and is in talks to become minority investor in the PGA Tour.
‘Reunification’
Woods was scheduled to US President Donald Trump with PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan and Adam Scott on February 4 but flew back to Florida after the sudden death of his mother on February 4.
“I think the only thing that really matters to fans and for the game is ultimately reunification. I think everything else falls out of that,” Monahan said.
Woods described his mother as his rock, whose passing forced him to withdraw from Genesis Invitational.
“She meant everything to me. Losing her has been a very hard and difficult process to go through,” Woods said, as he prepares to return to competitive golf with his Jupiter team in the indoor TGL in Florida.
