New Delhi: A United Airlines flight witnessed a dramatic incident when a wheel fell off the plane during takeoff from Los Angeles on Monday. However, it managed to land safely in Denver.
United Flight 1001, a Boeing 757-200, had 174 passengers and seven crewmembers on board when it lost a wheel from its rear landing gear upon departure from LAX. The aircraft landed at Denver International Airport (DIA) just before 11 AM. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
United Airlines has launched an investigation to ascertain the cause of the wheel detachment. The wheel has been recovered in Los Angeles.
This incident follows a similar event in March when a United Airlines Boeing 777 lost a tire after taking off from San Francisco International Airport. That tire caused damage on the ground, crushing a car and several other vehicles.
