New Delhi: As India’s World Cup-winning heroes arrived to a grand reception in Delhi and Mumbai and in their respective hometowns, outgoing head coach Rahul Dravid’s reception had a unique touch. At a local cricket academy in Bengaluru, Dravid got a hero welcome and a guard of honour from the young cricketers for his valuable contribution to Team India’s T20 World Cup 2024 triumph in the Caribbean and making an entry as a World Cup-winning coach.
The budding talents and the coaching staff at the cricket academy paid tribute to the former India cricketer. The students raised their bats and the coaching staff gave Dravid a round of applause as he made his way inside, shaking hands with the kids with his face brimming with a smile. It has been made clear that a kid training under the guidance of Dravid is bound to achieve greater heights and the future of the kids at this academy surely looks bright.

Dravid’s coaching stint
Dravid, who made his international debut in 1996 and played for India till 2012, couldn’t lay his hands on the prestigious World Cup. He however fulfilled his dream of lifting the ICC silverware as a coach, bringing the curtains down on a fantastic stint as the Men in Blue’s head coach. Dravid had to deal with the heartbreaks of the 2007 ODI World Cup as the skipper and the 2023 ODI World Cup as the team’s head coach but received a happy ending with a World Cup title under his name.
He had notably also coached the U19 Indian team that lifted the 2018 World Cup in New Zealand which had current India regulars like Shubman Gill, Arshdeep Singh, Abhishek Sharma, and Riyan Parag. All have been trained by Dravid and their career has been off to a flyer ever since.
Dravid had announced he will step down from coaching duties for India after the culmination of T20 World Cup 2024 and a new coach is soon to be announced by the BCCI. Meanwhile, Dravid will look to shape the future talents at the academy.
