Viagra suited for women or not? Study says taking the blue pill may trigger side effects

New Delhi: Viagra is a blue pill often relied upon by men to treat erectile dysfunction. However, sometimes women also fall back on the same – but the core purpose of widening blood vessels and boosting circulation to the genitals to achieve and sustain an erection for a longer than usual duration. But according to experts, doing this could be a huge mistake and it may also have long-term, irreversible side effects. From 2021 to 2023, 125 reports at the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency noted 216 side-effects of the blue pill and one-third of these were noted in women.

Side effects of Viagra-like pills in women

From 2018 to 2020, only 23 reports by women were taken into count with a total of 43 side effects. Women in this case complained of the following side effects:

Breathing issues
Anxiety
Insomnia
Headaches
Nausea
Vomiting
Breathing problems
Tiredness
Vertigo

Side effects of viagra in men

Whereas, in men, the following side effects were noted:

Aggression
Eye problems
Heart diseases
Euphoria
Priapism – a painful state wherein men may sustain an erection for long hours

What are the benefits of Viagra?

Viagra has been hailed in the past few years for several other health benefits than simply treating erectile dysfunction. This pill by Pfizer was patented in the UK in 2023. Researchers, over the years, discovered that this pill can also be beneficial for heart patients as it helps mitigate blood pressure in hypertension patients. Experts said that this pill can be given to people to help re-build confidence and restore sexual self-esteem, and also with caution to heart patients. At the same time, it is of utmost importance to be well aware of the possible side effects and act accordingly.
