Madrid: As many as 30 passengers of an Air Europa flight sustained minor injuries after the plane was hit by severe turbulence. Following this, the Flight UX045 headed from Spain’s Madrid to Uruguay’s Montevideo was diverted and made an emergency landing at Natal Airport in northeastern Brazil.
Amid this, now a video of a passenger being rescued from the overhead cabin of the flight is going viral. The turbulence was so intense that the man was thrown into the overhead luggage compartment.
The viral video shows the passengers rescuing a man from the overhead compartment while a baby cries in the background.
Several other videos of the incident that has surfaced revealed the aftermath, with ceiling panels torn off and damaged seats. More than two dozen passengers on the flight received varying degrees of injuries.
Air Europa’s Official Statement
In a statement, Air Europa confirmed that the plane landed without further incident and that the injured passengers were being treated. “The plane has landed normally, and those with injuries of varying degrees are receiving medical attention,” the airline stated.
One passenger, Norys, recounted his experience to the Uruguayan outlet El Observador. “I was relaxing and enjoying the flight when the captain warned us about potential turbulence and advised us to fasten our seatbelts. Initially, the turbulence was mild, but suddenly, the plane plunged, causing those without seatbelts to hit the ceiling,” he said.
