VIDEO: Re-live Musheer Khan’s masterful century on Duleep Trophy debut

New Delhi: Amidst a plethora of superstars, young Musheer Khan held his own. The junior Khan not only outshone his elder brother Sarfaraz Khan but also the likes of Rishabh Pant, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Washington Sundar en route to a sensational century on his Duleep Trophy debut. Musheer showed high levels of concentration and showed immense maturity to score a majestic century.

Musheer remained unbeaten on 105 (227b, 10×4, 2×6) with Navdeep Saini (29 not out, 74b, 4×4, 1×6) at the other end. The duo fought back for India B with a stand of 108 for the eighth wicket, taking their team to safety from 94 for seven after India A skipper Shubman Gill had opted to bowl first under overcast skies.

Musheer saved India B from a disastrous collapse with an innings of maturity that was beyond his 19 tender years.

When the U-19 star walked into bat at No 3 in the 14th over, India A bowlers were on right on top under dark clouds at the Chinnaswamy.

But Musheer tackled the international pace trio of Khaleel Ahmed, Akash Deep and Avesh Khan expertly negotiating the extra bounce, carry and movement.

He also played star India spinner Kuldeep Yadav with ease. Five of his 10 boundaries came off the left-arm wrist spinner, including two successive straight drives.

Musheer later revealed that conversations with the likes of Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant helped him prepare against Kuldeep.

Earlier, Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a crisp 59-ball 30 studded with six boundaries but his innings was cut short by Khaleel.

Pant’s red-ball return lasted a mere 10 balls as the wicket-keeper batter was caught brilliantly by Shubman before Akash produced the ball of the day to castle Nitish Kumar Reddy on the very next delivery.
