Vignan Bo Tree School crowned champions as SFA Championships come to spectacular end

New Delhi: The SFA Championships 2024 came to a spectacular end as Vignan Bo Tree School emerged as the overall champions of the youth sports championship in Hyderabad. The landmark event for India’s young sporting superstars proved to be a success story for the collaboration between News9’s football talent hunt programme, “Indian Tigers and Tigresses,” and Sports For All (SFA).

The one-of-a-kind initiative by News9, from the house of TV9, India’s No. 1 news network, grabbed plenty of eyeballs at the SFA Championships 2024. The young stars in Hyderabad showed massive interest in joining the sporting revolution on the biggest sports grassroots platform in the country.

TV9 Network partnered with SFA, one of the biggest grassroots sports development platforms in India, for the “Indian Tigers and Tigresses” campaign. The sporting initiative provided a golden opportunity to young boys and girls (age groups 12 to 14 and 15 to 17) across the country to showcase their talent.

The groundbreaking initiative of the TV9 Network has joined hands with the best in the business including Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, India Football Centre, IFI, BVB, and RIESPO among others, to spot the young talent in the country through a world-class scouting network. The winners will be felicitated in Germany in early 2025.

A Spectacular finale celebrates the champions of Hyderabad

The SFA Championships 2024 concluded with a breathtaking final day, showcasing India’s rich sporting spirit and cultural heritage. At Sri Kotla Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy Stadium, athletes mesmerised the audience with graceful displays of Yogasana, presenting traditional poses that beautifully honoured India’s cultural legacy. As the table tennis finals played out, the excitement reached fever pitch ahead of the much-anticipated closing ceremony.

The awards ceremony recognised schools and individual athletes who delivered outstanding performances across 22 sports. Vignan’s Bo Tree School, Nizampet, emerged as the overall champions, solidifying their legacy with titles in Athletics, Handball, Hockey, Karate, Skating, and Volleyball. Delhi Public School (Khajaguda) was celebrated as the Best School in Basketball, while Meru International School earned the honour in Football.

Among the star athletes, Golden Boy Dhruva Puthumbaka from Chirec International School shone in Athletics and Skating, achieving 1 Gold and 2 Silver medals in the U-8 and U-9 categories, respectively. The Golden Girl title was jointly awarded to Johanna Shiju from Oasis School, Raidurg, who earned 4 Gold and 2 Silver medals in Athletics and Swimming (U-16), and Samyukta from Delhi Public School, Khajaguda, who dominated in the U-12 category with 4 Gold and 1 Silver across Swimming and Athletics events.

The leaderboard was intensely contested, with The Future Kid’s School, Puppal Guda claiming the title of 1st Runner Up and Vignan Bo Tree School proudly taking the winner’s trophy. As champions of the SFA Championships Hyderabad 2024, they have set a high standard for future contenders.

This year’s Hyderabad edition of the SFA Championships brought together over 23,000 athletes from 920 schools, competing across 22 sports, creating a vibrant platform for young athletes to showcase their talent and compete for the pride of their school. Driven by SFA’s mission to professionalise and uplift grassroots sports, the Championships foster a culture of investment in youth sporting talent.

As the curtains fell on the 6th edition, SFA reaffirmed its commitment to celebrating the next generation of champions.
