Vinod Kambli hospitalised in ‘critical condition’ after his health deteriorates again

New Delhi: In a worrying development, former India cricketer Vinod Kambli has been hospitalised in Thane in ‘critical’ condition after his health deteriorated again. The doctors have kept Kambli under observation as the cricketer undergoes treatment. Kambli has dealt with multiple health issues in the past due to his alcohol addiction among other problems.

Kambli has been admitted to the Pragati Hospital in Thane. While details about his illness or ailment are not known yet, as per news agency IANS, Kambli was admitted to the hospital on Saturday night after his condition deteriorated. Though his condition is said to be stable now, the former India batter remains critical.

Kambli recently garnered headlines after he was reunited with his childhood friend and legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar at the memorial of their childhood coach Ramakant Achrekar in Mumbai. Kambli was spotted in a wheelchair and looked in pale condition, sparking concerns regarding his overall health.

After his health became a concern, several members of India’s 9183 World Cup-winning squad came forward to help Kambli. The legendary Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar publically spoke about helping the former India batter, however, on the condition that he will be ready to enter rehab again to overcome his alcohol issues.

Reacting to the condition set by Gavaskar and Kapil, Kambli insisted he is ready to enter rehab again if he gets financial help for his treatment from the 1983 World Cup-winning team. “I’m ready to go for rehab. I want to go there because I don’t fear anything. My family is with me,” Kambli said during an interview with Vickey Lalwani on his YouTube channel.

In the interview, Kambli also revealed he underwent two heart surgeries in 2013 and received financial support from Tendulkar for his treatment. The former batter revealed he was recently admitted to hospital due to a urine problem. He admitted the support from his wife and kids helped him overcome his health troubles.
