New Delhi: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batter Virat Kohli shone with yet another match-winning knock for the team, helping them move to the top of the points table with their eighth win of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Saturday. Taking on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, RCB completed a double over CSK with a nerve-shredding two-run win.
Kohli, who has almost become a fifty-hitting machine, recorded his fourth consecutive half-century, which resulted in a fourth successive win for RCB as well. The team is all but qualified for the playoffs, and Kohli has played a major role in getting the team to the upper echelons of the table. He snatched the Orange Cap back from Sai Sudharsan (504 runs), climbing to 505 runs and making it his eighth IPL season with 500+ runs.
With this, he eclipsed another IPL stalwart, David Warner, who put up scores of 500-plus in as many as seven IPL seasons. Warner is followed by KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan. The milestone is a testament to Kohli’s batting excellence and longevity, and it remains to be seen how more he is going to climb in the ongoing season. Also, for the first time in IPL history, RCB completed a league double over the five-time IPL champions.

CSk botch run chase
Although CSK looked well on course in the daunting 214-run chase with the heroics of opening prodigy Ayush Mhatre (48-ball 94) and veteran Ravindra Jadeja (77* off 45), RCB were able to eke out a narrow two-run victory to take a sigh of relief. Fast bowler Yash Dayal rose to the occasion and successfully defended 15 runs off the final over, with the prized wicket of CSK talisman MS Dhoni (12 off 8), who took the blame for the narrow loss, at the post-match presentation.
The already eliminated CSK took solace in 17-year-old Mhatre’s fiery knock but continued their poor run of form, enduring their ninth loss of the season. They continue to sit at the bottom of the points table with just two wins to their credit and will next play Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on May 7. Meanwhile, RCB will take on Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on May 9.
