Virat Kohli labelled ‘bully’ over argument with female reporter at Melbourne airport

New Delhi: Australian media continue to play mind games amid the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, targeting the Indian cricketers with baseless allegations. Virat Kohli has been at the centre of a storm ever since he argued with a female Australian reporter at the Melbourne airport earlier this week for disrespecting his privacy by clicking pictures of his kids and family.

An Australian journalist has targeted Kohli over the airport fiasco and labelled him a ‘bully’ for ‘berating’ the female reporter during their argument at the airport. The incident happened earlier this week after Kohli landed at the Melbourne airport with his kids and family ahead of the Boxing Day Test between India and Australia which gets underway on December 26.

Kohli got involved in a heated argument with Nat Yoannidis, a 9News reporter over the journalist and her cameraperson filming his kids and family without his permission. Kohli has in the past urged the Indian media personnel to refrain from filming his kids in India, citing privacy concerns.

However, his privacy was not respected in Australia where the journalist and the cameraperson filmed him and his family arriving at the airport. Kohli was seemingly not happy with the incident and was seen having an argument with Yoannidis which went viral on social media. Kohli urged the reporter to keep his pictures but delete the pictures and videos of his kids. He was also seen shaking hands of the female reporter after their conversation.

Virat Kohli called a bully over airport fiasco

However, Kohli continues to get targeted by the Aussie media over the incident as now Nine Sports reporter Tony Jones has slammed the Team India star over the incident. Labelling him a ‘bully’, Jones accused Kohli of bullying Yoannidis and said the reporter was only doing her job.

“Nat was out there with a cameraman, a Channel 7 reporter was out there with his cameraman and they were doing what we do on a daily basis essentially, and that’s be at the airport to actually get identities, whether they’re politicians, whether they’re sporting identities or whatever. He took umbrage, he being Virat Kohli, to the fact the cameras were focused on him,” Jones was quoted as saying by Daily Mail.

“Well duh! You’re a batting superstar, you’re a global superstar in the world of cricket, and he takes umbrage to the fact that the attention is focused on him. What really got my back up when I saw the footage was that he turned around to the three blokes, the two cameramen and the reporter from Channel 7, and said you guys are OK, it’s her.

“Really? Big tough man, Virat. And then he stood over this girl, Nat Yoannidis, who’s about five foot one, five foot two, and just absolutely berated her. You’re nothing but a bully, Virat,” he added.
