New Delhi: India will be eyeing their fifth win on the trot when they lock horns with Bangladesh in a Super 8 clash of the T20 World Cup 2024 at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua on Saturday. India have an exceptional record against Bangladesh having won 13 out of the 14 encounters played so far and winning all four games of the T20 World Cup against them. They will hope to extend their dominance with another win on Saturday.
Meanwhile, India have plenty of selection headaches to address that have surfaced after the poor form of the Indian top order. While Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s spot looks undeterred, both have been at the receiving end for performing poorly in the last few games. The pressure increases tremendously on the middle order due to this and the Indian management might want to look at their bench support from now on.
The pitch in North Sound, Antigua is known to provide assistance to the bowlers and it suggests there won’t be any change in the bowling attack. The pacers and the spinners are shining brighter with each game and all India needs to look upon is their batting as bowlers won’t continue winning them matches for longer.
Rohit has dominated Bangladesh in the past as Taskin Ahmed and Shakib Al Hasan have never managed to get him out in T20Is. Moreover, the Indian opener has been lethal against Mustafizur Rahman. While Rohit and Kohli are expected to play regardless of the voice outside, Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Yadav have done fine enough to cement their spot in the team. The all-rounder duo of Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja haven’t done anything wrong and India do need two spinners (Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav) and two pacers (Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh).
Should Virat, Dube make way for Jaiswal, Samson?
Shivam Dube, who vividly bagged a selection on the back of his stellar run in the IPL 2024 has been on a dismal run in the ongoing T20 showpiece. He seems to be very close to getting dropped from the team and making way for others warming the bench. Sanju Samson can be his apt replacement and it might give the Indian management an opportunity to find out how the wicketkeeper-batter fares on the global stage in a foreign land.
Batting stalwart Virat Kohli is hushed with the bat as the bowlers have managed to get the good of him. He might lend his spot to batting prodigy Yashasvi Jaiswal who indeed deserves a chance to showcase his prowess at the grand ICC event. Nonetheless, chances look bleak for Team India to bring in any changes from their previous XI as they might not want to tinker with the combination that has led them to five wins on the trot.
India’s predicted playing XI against Bangladesh:
Rohit Sharma (c), Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant (wk), Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh.
Will Yashasvi Jaiswal pip Virat Kohli for a spot in the team or will Sanju Samson replace Shivam Dube? Here is a look at India’s predicted playing XI for the Super 8 clash against Bangladesh in the T20 World Cup 2024 on Saturday.
