New Delhi: Team India landed in Delhi on Thursday morning after winning the T20 World Cup in Barbados. After taking some rest at the hotel, Rohit Sharma and Co. interacted with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence. PM Modi met with every member of the team and asked questions about their experience in the tournament.
Team India defeated South Africa by 7 runs in the final and clinched their second T20 World Cup title on June 29. But after the match, the team was stuck in the Caribbean nation due to Hurricane Beryl. BCCI arranged a special Air India chartered flight to bring the World Cup-winning heroes back home.
The Men in Blue enjoyed their interaction with PM Modi and shared photos and videos on Social Media. PM Modi also revealed his conversation with each World Cup-winning player in a live broadcast on his official X account.
During the conversation with PM Modi, star Indian batter Virat Kohli opened up about his struggle in the tournament. Kohli also revealed his conversation with Rahul Dravid during the tournament when he was struggling to score runs. He also talked about his conversation with Rohit and said that he told Rohit that he didn’t have much confidence in his batting and the way he wanted to play.
“Thank you very much for calling us all here and this day will always remain in my mind because in this entire tournament, I was not able to make the contribution that I wanted to and at one time I also told Rahul bhai that I have not given justice to both myself and the team till now. So he told me that when the situation comes, I am sure that you will come into form. So this conversation happened between us and when we went to play, I told Rohit, I did not have that much confidence that I would be able to bat the way I wanted to but when we went to play” revealed Virat Kohli.

During the conversation with PM Modi, head coach Rahul Dravid said that he was very happy to meet with the PM and also credited his team for the hard work they put in every match.

‘Just wanted to keep a moment of that’: Rohit Sharma
Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked Indian Captain Rohit Sharma about his soil-eating act after the final to which Rohit said that he just wanted to keep something from the pitch where they won the World Cup and his team got close many times but fell short.
“The place, the playing surface where we got our victory, I just wanted to keep something from that. I wanted to keep a moment of that to remember for my life and hence I tasted that. Because we won after playing on that pitch and everyone waited for that moment for so long, everyone put in so much effort for that. Numerous times in the past we came very close to achieving that but fell short and finally, we achieved through the team’s effort”.
