New Delhi: Indian cricketers Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill were captured having a moment of laughter during the first One-Day International match between India and Sri Lanka on Friday played at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
Virat Kohli has returned to the action for the first time after India’s victorious T20 World Cup run in June in the West Indies and USA. This also marks the first match for the senior Indian batter under the watch of new head coach Gautam Gambhir.
Shubman Gill was selected as the designated opener in the Indian playing XI along with skipper Rohit Sharma. Sri Lanka skipper Charith Asalanka won the toss and opted to bat first.
Just before the Indian players were set to enter the field, the senior-junior duo of Kohli and Gill was seen joking with each other. A short clip of their unheard conversation, which was seemingly amusing, went viral on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter).

Shubman Gill is considered as the successor of Virat Kohli in the Indian cricket team across formats. There are lot of expectations from the Punjab youngsters to emulate the milestones set by his idol Kohli. The duo is dubbed as ‘King and the Prince’ by the fans who admire their presence on the field.
