New Delhi: Royal Challengers Bengaluru legend Virat Kohli surpassed Shikhar Dhawan to register another glorious feat in Indian Premier League during the 18th edition finale on Tuesday. The former Indian skipper surpassed Dhawan’s record of most boundaries in the cash-rich tournament after smashing three fours in the summit clash.
Dhawan led the list with 768 boundaries in the history of the league and Kohli, who had hit 766 fours before entering the match, smashed three more to lead the elusive list with a total of 769 boundaries. Kohli is now atop the elite list while Dhawan slips to the second spot. No other batter apart from these two has hit more than 700 fours in the cash-rich league.

Kohli’s sluggish innings cut short
Though the star batter registered another feat in the IPL but was unable to play an impactful role in the summit clash. Falling short of a half-century, Kohli sluggishly scored 43 runs off 35 balls which included three boundaries before departing back to the pavilion. Put into bat first, RCB lost the wickets of Philip Salt and Mayank Agarawal early in the innings.
Though both the batters showcased intent with scores of 16 and 24 respectively but still could not convert their little knocks into big totals. Kohli and skipper Rajat Patidar then stabilised the innings before the captain lost his wicket for 26 runs off 16 balls.
Meanwhile, the Royal Challengers ended up scoring 190 runs in the stipulated 20 overs to give a target of 191 for the Punjab Kings in the summit clash. While Kohli top scored for the side, Patidar, Liam Livingstone (25) and Jitesh Sharma (24 off 10) were the other contributors for the side. For Punjab, Kyle Jamieson and Arshdeep Singh shined with the ball picking three wickets apiece.
