New Delhi: Former Pakistan tearaway pacer Shoaib Akhtar wants to become a billionaire and surpass his country’s entire wealth. Since retiring from cricket in 2011, Akhtar has worked as a TV pundit, a real estate entrepreneur while also running his own YouTube content channel.
Asked about his intention of working in diverse domains, Akhtar said he wants to earn truckloads of money and is quite driven to achieving it. He is reported to have a net worth of $8 million.
“I want to become the first billionaire in US dollars from Pakistan. I also want to earn more money than the entire Pakistan. I am not joking. I am serious about what I am saying,” he said while speaking on TNKS podcast.
The former right arm speedster retired from international cricket after the 2011 ODI World Cup, where Pakistan lost to India in the semi-finals. He claimed that had Pakistan fielded him in the match he would have ensured their victory in that match and the final.
“I had two games left in me. I told the team management to include me and I won’t let India win the semi-final. If I had played the final, Pakistan would have won the 2011 World Cup,” he said, also claiming to be the only Pakistani cricketer to retire on his own terms.
‘Sent financial model to PCB’
Akhtar also said that he has sent financial suggestions to Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Mohsin Naqvi. He wants the PCB to expand its premier T20 tournament to the regional level and conduct the tournament on a larger scale with 50 teams along with conducting qualifying games.
“I shared a financial model with Naqvi sir. I want them to have 50 teams in the tournament, not five teams. I told him to start PSL Qualifiers – PSL part 2 or PSL 2.0 – 8 teams from every region and there should be 8 regions as well. We can start one by one, then within three years, we can launch eight regions,” Akhtar said on the podcast.
“I have given them a whole business model. I hope they apply, but I’m no longer interested in working with PCB. I have never asked for a job any ways. I have never worked in PCB, but people are scared of me.”
