WATCH: Gautam Gambhir’s message of congratulations and stern warning to Indian players

New Delhi: Team India started their life as T20I world champions in emphatic fashion as Suryakumar Yadav-led team steamrolled Sri Lanka in a three-match T20I series. India cruised to their third series sweep victory against Lanka in T2oI history to mark the beginning of the Gautam Gambhir-Suryakumar era in emphatic style.

India staged a remarkable comeback in the third and final T20I and snatched victory from the jaws of defeat. Those who thought that India, who lost four wickets in the powerplay and five inside the first 10 overs, were taking things lightly in the dead rubber, had another thing coming.

The lower-order fought valiantly to put a fighting total on the board and then the bowlers, who were put under pressure by the Sri Lankan top-order bounced back brilliantly to force the game into the Super Over.

Indian players fought for every run and never gave up despite being put under immense pressure by the Sri Lankans. It seems new head coach Gambhir has stamped his authority in very little time. Gambhir’s never-give-up attitude could be seen in the body language of all the players.

Following the series win, Gambhir, in his first dressing room address, hailed the Men in Blue for their tenacious performance. He congratulated the team members for fighting till the last and hailed the attitude of the team. Hardik Pandya, who was rested for the final match, also lauded the performance of the Men in Blue.

During the speech, Gambhir also gave a stern warning to the players who will return home following the T20I series. Gambhir said that those who are not part of the ODI set-up deserve a break but once they return for the Bangladesh series, their fitness should be up to the mark.
